Driver Accused Of Ramming Family Is Hudson Valley Resident

The man accused of killing the mother of six became enraged after a back-and-forth with the father.

GARNERVILLE, NY — The man accused of getting into his car at a 7-Eleven and ramming a family of eight because the father asked him to stop smoking near the kids has been identified by the media as Jason Mendez of Washingtonville in Orange County.

The mother of six died of her injuries, Haverstraw police said. She was pregnant, according to the Daily News. Her youngest child was severely injured. All were hospitalized.

The 35-year-old not only ran them down but then drove into them again, police said.

He was charged with murder and attempted murder and pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. He was being held at the Rockland County jail, The Journal News reported.
