It's storm season, back-to-school season and Library Card Sign-up Month.

From Mayor Ron Belmont

Summer is coming to a close, and as history dictates, storm season is approaching. I want to bring your attention to a several important communication options. In storms past, many Harrison residents were unable to receive my robo-calls as their phone service was interrupted during the storm. Forwarding your calls to an additional phone number (for example, your cell phone) can increase your availability (especially if you are away from the telephone that is diverting calls to another number) for an extended period of time. To forward your home phone number or landline to a cell phone, you must consult with your landline service provider to confirm that the call forwarding feature is an option. Generally, the customer can enter numerical codes, using a landline or home phone, to initiate the call forwarding option.

Harrison residents can now receive real time Public Safety Messages through Nixle. The Harrison Police Department has partnered with Nixle to implement its Community Notification System to alert residents in real-time for localized emergency situations and relevant community advisories. As a resident, there are several simple ways to register:

As the new school year settles in, I would like to remind our community to be conscious of back to school safety tips. Parents should instruct their children on safe practices for walking to and from school. Drivers should be aware of children who may be distracted while walking or biking, through our neighborhoods, on their way to school. In addition, drivers should be alert to school bus traffic and flashing lights that indicate loading or unloading students. Parents and community members can all do their part in keeping our children safe as they begin the new school year.

September is c, and the Harrison Library wants to make sure all Harrison residents have a library card. Getting a library card is fast, easy and free. Adults must bring proof of their current address such as a driver's license or utility bill. Parents will need to sign the registration form on behalf of children ages 12 and younger and within minutes a library card will be issued. I encourage all residents to take part in this event. For additional information, please visit the Library’s website at www.harrisonpl.org .

The next “Lunch with the Mayor” will be on Friday, September 14 th I will be at Cobble Stone, located at 620 Anderson Hill Road in Purchase. I will be at this location from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and look forward to meeting with residents and talking about issues facing our community.
