(Town of Harrison)

From Harrison Mayor Ron Belmont:

In an effort to enhance law enforcement initiatives, the Harrison Police Department recently implemented e-bikes to patrol our community roadways. This measure will not only allow Department personnel to remain on the roadway for a longer period of time, as compared to traditional bikes, it also will allow for greater geographical coverage and quicker response time. Harrison was the first municipality in NY State to introduce this program and many communities across the country have since followed. I’m proud of our police department and believe that this program will be critical in maintaining the safe community we enjoy today.

As a member of Sustainable Westchester, the Town/Village of Harrison is working toward keeping our community eco-friendly. Residents can join this effort by visiting our town homepage (at www.harrison-ny.gov) and clicking on the Zero Waste Westchester link in the left hand margin. Concerned citizens will be able to learn about sustainability initiatives and helpful resources. I encourage all Harrison residents to join us in protecting our natural resources as we move towards a sustainable future.

Each week, in an effort to highlight businesses that go above and beyond in beautifying their establishments, I will be focusing on local merchants who have spruced up their properties. I believe the effort and investment merchants make, in enhancing their property, deserves to be recognized. I would like to bring your attention to two community establishments that have improved the aesthetic of their storefronts. This year, Aquario Restaurant, located at 141 Lake Street in West Harrison, and Emilio Ristorante, located at 1 Colonial Place in Downtown Harrison, have added new flowers, shrubs and plantings. These visuals make for a more pleasing streetscape and encourage patrons to visit our business districts.

In anticipation of increased water usage due to seasonal lawn irrigation systems, it is advisable that residents locate and repair leaks in homes, offices, buildings and irrigation systems. Leaks account for a vast amount of wasted water each year. Leaking toilet flappers, dripping faucets and leaky valves are very common but are easy to correct. In addition to conserving water, these repairs can substantially reduce homeowner’s water bills. On a related note, automatic lawn sprinklers are a significant part of the Town’s peak water usage. By setting your automatic lawn sprinkler system to operate between the hours of 11 pm and 5 am, you can reduce the Towns demand for water during (early to mid morning) peak times. I am asking all residents to please do their best to maintain efficiency and to use water wisely.

With the heat waves our region is experiencing this summer, pool attendance has been at an all time high. As you visit the Town facilities, please keep in mind that a pool pass is required for entry. Guests are permitted but must be accompanied by a pass holder. For information, regarding pool regulations and fees, please visit our website at Harrison-ny.gov.

In closing, the next “Lunch with the Mayor” is on Friday, August 2nd and I will be at Emilio’s Ristorante located at 1 Colonial Place in Downtown Harrison. Westchester County Legislators, Ben Boykin, Nancy Barr and Catherine Parker will be joining me and all Harrison residents are encouraged to drop by to meet our local elected officials. We will be at this location from 12:30 to 1:30 and look forward to talking to constituents about issues facing our community.
