Lockdown Ends As Teen Arrested In Connection With Threats

HARRISON, NY — In a message to families Monday morning, school officials in Harrison said that an anonymous message that included an unspecified "threat of violence at Harrison High School" has caused a lockout at all campuses.

It turns out those threats were directed at a Harrison High School in Evansville, Indiana. In the interconnected world of social media, however, law enforcement and school officials made the decision to err on the side of caution.

Administrators said the decision this morning to put lockout protocols in place was made as a precaution.

In the message to students, parents and staff, the district said that a police presence was heightened at the high school, as well as at the other schools in the system. The email alert sent just before 10 a.m. on Monday said that while classes continued, no visitors would be permitted inside the schools and students would be required to remain indoors.

The lockout was canceled this afternoon, after it was learned that a juvenile in Indiana had been arrested in connection with Snapchat threats against Harrison High School in Indiana. The Evansville Police Department told the Evansville Courier & Press that the suspect in the case has been charged with three counts of felony intimidation.

"The Harrison Police Department has confirmed that the anonymous threat reported earlier today concerned Harrison High School in Evansville, Indiana, where an arrest has been made in this case," school district officials said in a statement released Monday afternoon. "As always, the district appreciates the timely response and essential partnership of the Harrison Police Department to resolve this situation."
