Westchester Women Visit Site of Their Grant

Members of UJA-Federation's Harrison-Purchase Giving Circle Combat Food Insecurity With Funding to Brooklyn JCC

In New York, 1.6 million people live in poverty, and 120,000 children in Jewish households are poor. UJA-Federation of New York embraces the idea that no one should ever have to choose between a home and a meal. A group of women from the Westchester community who pool their gifts to make collective decisions about funding, UJA’s Harrison-Purchase Giving Circle, has worked to make that idea a reality with the gift of a refrigerator to Pantry on the Go, run by the Jewish Community Council of Marine Park. Recently, these women visited the pantry to see how their grant has made a difference in the community and to pack more than 100 meals made up of food left over from catered events that would otherwise have been discarded. The new refrigerator keeps the meals fresh until they are distributed.
