3 Hurt, 1 Seriously, in Hauppauge Crash Involving Stony Brook Fire Chief

Two-car crash occurred at the intersection of Route 111 and Route 347 early Thursday morning, police say.

A Stony Brook Fire Department chief and two others were hurt in a two-car crash in Hauppauge early Thursday morning, police said.

According to police, a sedan heading south on Route 111 collided with the chief’s SUV, which had been traveling east on Route 347, at 12:36 a.m.

The male driver of the sedan and a female passenger were both taken via ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital, where the driver is being treated for non-life threatening injuries and the passenger is being treated for serious injuries, police said.

The fire chief was airlifted via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook, where he is being treated for injuries, police said. Police did not have information on his condition as of mid-morning Thursday.

“A complex extrication” was required to free the occupants from the vehicles, Smithtown Fire Department Public Information Officer Jeff Bressler wrote on the department’s website. The Hauppauge Fire Department also assisted with the extrications.

Police did not releases the names of any of the people injured in the crash.
