3 People Hurt, 1 Seriously, in Head-On Hauppauge Crash

A driver ran a "steady red light" before crash Saturday afternoon, police say.

HAUPPAUGE, NY- Three people were injured after a driver “apparently failed to stop at a steady red light” and caused a two-vehicle crash in Hauppauge Saturday afternoon, police said.

According to witnesses, a woman driving a Toyota Prius failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Route 347 and Veterans Memorial Highway around 4:33 p.m. The Toyota collided with a Honda.

The woman driving the Prius and her female passenger as well as the Honda driver were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital. The passenger in the Prius suffered serious internal injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening. The injuries to the two drivers are non-life threatening, police said.

The Smithtown Fire Department responded to the scene, but the drivers of both vehicles and passengers were able to self-extricate themselves, according to Smithtown Fire Department Public Information Officer Jeff Bressler.

Police did not release the names of any of the victims. No criminal charges have been filed.
