HAUPPAUGE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT THE LIFELONG HEALTH BENEFITS OF YOGA
Hauppauge Middle School students are learning yoga techniques and are introduced to the lifetime practice of yoga as part of their Physical Education and 8th grade Health curricula.
“Yoga is not just about working out; it’s about healthy lifestyle,” described Hauppauge Middle School Physical Education Teacher Tracy Borchers. “Students are taught that yoga is a very valuable way to manage their stress levels. It helps not only relieve stress but allows you to feel relaxed, boost confidence, lower the risk of injury, increase flexibility, helps lose weight, improves muscle tone and strength and also can lower blood pressure. It is also crucial to social emotional learning.”
The Hauppauge School District will introduce the practice of yoga into Bretton Woods, Forest Brook and the Pines Elementary Schools starting in fall 2015.
