Donate Your Old Coats and Create a Warm Heart

Brian Travers and a colleague were standing outside the office of their Hauppauge financial company one winter day two years ago, shivering against a chill wind.

“Imagine,” Travers said, “what it must be like not to have a coat in this weather.”
His colleague agreed, and they both began to do some research. They found a national organization, One Warm Coat, based in Dallas, which collected warm garments for those who did not have them during the winter months.

Two years ago, Travers, founder of Travers & Associates, a wealth management firm, managed to collect 140 winter coats, donated by his employees, clients and others. The drive had to be put on hold last year as Travers & Associates re-located to another building. But it is on again this year, and will continue until Nov. 16.

“We wanted to give a little back to the community,” Travers said.
One Warm Coat was started in 1992 with a Thanksgiving weekend coat drive at one location in San Francisco. Since, the organization has welcome thousands of groups across the country to donate warm winter clothing.
