Celebrating Chinese New Year

Forest Brook's Technology Tools Help Students Learn about and Celebrate the Chinese New Year

Forest Brook 3rd grade students in Michelle Braglia and Laura Gandolfo’s class were completely engaged in a special Nearpod Presentation that helped teach them about the Chinese New Year! Nearpod is a classroom technology tool to help teachers engage students with interactive lessons on their iPad devices.

The students learned how the New Year is celebrated in the United States in comparison to China’s celebration of the New Year. They also enjoyed a short video explaining the legend of Nian and how the celebrations came about; took a virtual field trip to a Chinese Temple during a New Year's celebration; and read articles about the special roles that specific animals play in the Chinese calendar. The students even drew some of their favorite zodiac animals on their iPads!
