Hauppauge's Cosmetology Students Raise More Than $3,000 for the Fight Against Children's Cancer

The Cosmetology Program of Eastern Suffolk BOCES, housed at Hauppauge High School, has raised $3,000 (and counting) for St. Baldrick's Foundation to fight childhood cancer. “Shaving the Way to Conquer Kids' Cancer” was a huge success as teachers and their families, administrators and community members joined together to raise funds; sell tee-shirts, hats, bracelets and pins; and/or to shave their hair for St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

Hauppauge sophomore Keerthi Banothu even celebrated her 16th birthday by shaving her hair at the school event. At 30 inches long, Banothu’s hair was donated to another charity, Locks of Love, where it will be used to make at least two full wigs for patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
