As part of the nationwide "Click It or Ticket" campaign, police and state Troopers will be cracking down on unbuckled drivers and passengers. Seatbelt checkpoints and added patrols will be part of the campaign from May 20 to June 2.
Although New York State has a seat belt compliance rate of 90 or better, 52% of vehicle passengers killed in 2011 were not wearing a seat belt and the goal is to have every driver and passenger buckle up!
