HAUPPAUGE JUNIOR'S PHOTOGRAPH FEATURED IN HECKSCHER MUSEUM'S LONG ISLAND'S BEST AND 2015 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD WINNER
Hauppauge High School junior Megan Overton’s photograph Untitled was featured in Long Island’s Best: Young Artists at The Heckscher Museum, March 21-April 19, 2015, and was also the winner of the Renzo S. Bianchi Scholarship Award for 2015.
Now in its 19th year, Long Island’s Best challenges students in grades 9 through 12 from across Nassau and Suffolk Counties to choose a work of art in the Museum as the starting point for their own creative exploration. This year, 54 public and private schools submitted students’ artwork for jurying. Three hundred and eleven student entries were received and Heckscher Museum Curator Lisa Chalif selected 80 for display in the galleries. An artist’s statement accompanied each artwork on view, explaining the student’s thought process and artistic journey from conception to completion. A thumbnail image of the artwork on view in the Museum that inspired the student work also was featured.
