Firefighters Extinguish Flames on Hoffman Lane
Residents and nearby utility workers report hearing a loud boom before fire or smoke was spotted.
Hauppauge firefighters races to extinguish a blaze on Hoffman Lane late Wednesday afternoon.
Suffolk County police said they received a 911 call at 4:34 p.m. reporting either fire or smoke coming from a residential home at 413 Hoffman Lane.
Firefighters from 's Engine Company 1, Engine Company 2 and other units responded to the scene. Hoffman Lane was temporarily closed between Motor Parkway and Townline Road.

Firefighers were able to bring the fire under control by approximately 5:30 p.m. according to preliminary reports. No information was immediately available as to its cause.
Central Islip-Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance reported on standby in case of injuries.
