Foreclosure Prevention Program to Visit Islandia Village Hall

Gov. Andrew Cuomo's program to help struggling homeowners avoid foreclosure will be holding hours at Islandia Village Hall on Friday. 

The Department of Financial Service's Mobile Command Center will be set up outside Islandia Village Hall on Friday, Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Local homeowners who are having financial trouble will be able to get advice on what assistance is available from assisting in communication with mortgage lenders to applying for mortgage modifications. 

"It is essential that we provide as much help as possible to financially-troubled homeowners. The objective is to provide direct help to homeowners and get the word out to others that it’s important to ask for help as quickly as possible. The longer a homeowner waits, the harder it may be to save a home," Cuomo said in a press statement. 

The Department of Financial Service's Foreclosure Prevention program was launched in January to help homeowners in foreclosure or at-risk of foreclosure. 

Those interested will be offered one-on-one meetings Friday with Department of Financial Service foreclosure specialists. Depending on an individual homeowner's situation, they may be able to offer the following help: 

• Applying for mortgage modification or providing help to homeowners who already sought mortgage modifications. 
• Interceding on behalf of homeowners with their mortgage lender or servicer.
• Assisting homeowners in communicating with their mortgage lender or servicer.
• Accepting complaints from homeowners who believe they might have been victimized by a mortgage lender. 

Cuomo's Foreclosure Prevention Mobile Command Unit has visited more than a dozen towns. In Islandia, representatives of the Long Island Community Development Corp. will also join the event.
