Hauppauge Girl Scout Gives Back to United Cerebral Palsy of Suffolk

Megan Babbino is a Girl Scout Gold Award candidate.  She chose to work with The Children's Center at UCP of Suffolk where she attended preschool.  Megan was born with Cerebral Palsy.  She received physical and occupational therapy as well as preschool education at The Children's Center.  When it was time for Megan to choose her Gold Award Project (equivalent to the Eagle Scout Award for Boy Scouts) she chose UCP because they did so much for her when she was little.  UCP would like to have a butterfly remembrance plaque in their lobby where they can remember the students who have passed away.  Megan orchestrated a huge BBQ fundraising event at Del Fuego in St. James on Sunday June 8th.  There was all you can eat, live music, auction items, face painting, tattoos, and a pie eating contest.  There were also cars from the Long Island Street Rod Association in attendance as well.  The event was a huge success, and after expenses Megan thinks that she's raised enough money to buy a larger butterfly plaque and pay for the engraving as well.  She wants to thank everyone who made donations or came out to support the event.  Megan's next steps are to work with UCP and the vendor to get the plaque ordered and then plan an unveiling ceremony in the fall.  Stay tuned and we'll let you know when that time comes.  We want to thank you for your support.
