Hauppauge Student Wins National Merit Scholarship

Scholarship winners were chosen out of more than 15,000 finalists based on their academic accomplishments.

Hauppauge High School student Daniel Nasta has been named a National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winner.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation made the announcement on Wednesday.

Nasta was selected out of more than 15,000 finalists in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program based on his academic accomplishments.

Nasta and about 7,600 finalists will be given the title of “Merit Scholar.” NMSC plans to award nearly $34 million in college scholarships by the end of the 2015 program.

All scholars may use their $2,500 award at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university.

Hauppauge seniors Matthew Fortmeyer and Stephen Kim has also been named finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
