Hauppauge Students Named 2015 National Merit Semifinalists
Hauppauge's Matthew Fortmeyer, Stephen Kim and Daniel Nasta were named Semifinalists in the prestigious National Merit Scholarship program.

Hauppauge School District is pleased to announce that High School Seniors Matthew Fortmeyer, Stephen Kim and Daniel Nasta have been named Semifinalists in the 60th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented students will now have an opportunity to continue in the competition to qualify for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring.
Fortmeyer, Kim and Nasta earned this outstanding national recognition for their exceptional achievement on the PSAT in fall 2013. The nationwide pool of National Merit Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
To become a Finalist, Fortmeyer, Kim and Nasta and Hauppauge High School must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about their academic records, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment and honors and awards received. From the approximately 16,000 Semifinalists, about 15,000 are expected to advance to the Finalist level. In February 2015, they will be notified of this designation. All National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from this group of Finalists.
