Hauppauge High School Students Win Second Place and Honorable Mention at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair

Hauppauge High School is proud to announce that seniors Luke Farrell and Sarah Jacobs won Second Place and junior Sai Karan Uppugalla received an Honorable Mention at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair (LISEF), which was held on March 12, 2015, at the Crest Hollow County Club in Woodbury.

Farrell and Jacobs partnered on a project titled “Machine Learning’s Application to Epidemiological Surveillance: A More Effective Means to Monitor the Spread of the Influenza Virus.” Uppugalla’s project was titled: “Using Advance Digital Imaging Software to Evaluate the Impact of and Recovery from the Natural Disasters.”

“Luke, Sarah and Sai Karan were excellent representatives of Hauppauge High School in a tremendously competitive atmosphere,” stated Director of Science, Technology and Research Teacher Robert Wankmuller. “They exhibited both confidence and character, and I am very proud of their achievement.”
