Long Island Weather: Wind Advisory Issued, Power Outages Possible

The advisory warns of potentially damaging winds across the island.

It will be a rainy Monday, but it's powerful wind gusts that will have the potential to knock down tree limbs and cause power outages on Long Island.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the island, in effect from 5 p.m. Monday until 6 p.m. Tuesday. Winds will gust up to 50 mph.

A wind advisory is issued when sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph...or gusts of 46 to 57 mph...are expected or occurring, the NWS says. Winds this strong can make driving difficult...especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
