Long Island Mother Left Her 1-Year-Old Son In Car While She Shopped: Cops
Police responded after a person reported that a child was left unattended in a 2015 Toyota Camry parked in a store's fire zone.

ISLANDIA, NY – Suffolk County Police arrested a Wyandanch woman after she left her 1-year-old son alone in her car while she shopped at a Walmart store Saturday afternoon, police said.
A Fourth Precinct police officer responded to the parking lot of the Walmart located at 1850 Veterans Memorial Highway in Islandia at about 2:15 p.m., after a person reported that a child was left unattended in a 2015 Toyota Camry parked in a fire zone.
When the child’s mother, Shatera Williams, 24, returned to the car, she was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child. The child was alone in the car for 10 to 15 minutes, police said. The child was placed in the custody of a relative.

Williams was held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
Suffolk County Child Protective Services was notified of the incident.
