MAKE SOMEONE SPECIAL
HAUPPAUGE 4th GRADERS PARTICIPATE IN RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS ACTIVITY DESIGNED TO SHOW THAT ALL STUDENTS ARE SPECIAL
Several of Bretton Woods Elementary School’s fourth grade classes recently participated in a Random Acts of Kindness activity designed to recognize that all students are special. “Every student in our class is special in their own way,” stated Teacher Danielle Sukoff who facilitated the activity. “Each and every one of them has unique qualities and characteristics that make them who they are.”
Each student was asked to select the name of a classmate from a hat. They were asked to keep the name a secret, and under no circumstances, would they be allowed to trade for another name. The 4th graders then were tasked with thinking about what makes this classmate special, unique, fun or just plain wonderful to be around. “Even though the students might not be best friends with each other, all children have good qualities; and it was each student’s goal to make a gift that would make his or her classmate feel special,” Sukoff described.
The students were not allowed to purchase a store bought gift. They had to make the gift, wrap it and write a card describing why this individual was special. The students’ handmade creations included: shirts, plaques, bags, picture frames, key chains, boxes and more. One of the gift cards said: “You are unique. You brighten up my day. You have so much to offer.”

“The entire class was beaming with pride and joy from both giving and receiving their gifts,” stated Sukoff.
