Man Drove Commercial Truck While Drunk: Suffolk Police
A 12,000-pound excavator was unsecured in the back of the truck, police say.
ISLANDIA, NY — A Farmingville man was arrested after Suffolk police said he drove a commercial vehicle while drunk on Tuesday in Islandia. The truck also had unsecured cargo, police said.
Motor Carrier Safety Section Officers Ralph Schneider and Thomas Mutarelli were on the eastbound Long Island Expressway at exit 58 around 12:50 p.m. when they saw a 2000 International roll-off truck with a 12,000-pound excavator unsecured on the back of the truck, police said.
Telmo Ferreira, 45, was found to be intoxicated and driving without a commercial driver's license, police said.

Ferreira was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He is set to be held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
The vehicle, which is owned by Ferreira, was impounded, police said.
