Man Passes Out at Traffic Light After Heroin Overdose: Police

The 23-year-old was found unconscious behind the wheel and needed to be revived with Narcan Thursday morning, police say.

ISLANDIA, NY - A 23-year-old West Islip man is charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs after police say he overdosed on heroin and passed out while stopped at a red light in Islandia Thursday morning.

According to police, Robert Moore was stopped at a red light at Motor Parkway and Express Drive South when he became unconscious and stopped breathing around 10:20 a.m. 

Two good Samaritans pulled over and rendered assistance to Moore before police arrived, police said.

Fourth Precinct officers responded and officer Kathleen Cotter, a member of the SCPD Medical Crisis Action Team (MEDCAT), administrated intranasal Narcan to Moore, who then regained consciousness.

Moore was transported to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, where he was treated and released, police said.

Moore is charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and will being held overnight at the Third Precinct. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.
