Pines Elementary School Students Donate to Community Residents in Need

Pines Elementary School students in Teachers Maribeth Krilovitch’s, Rachel Woodworth’s and Kelly Picard-Smith's fourth grade classes made food baskets that they donated to the Smithtown Emergency Food Pantry on Edgewood Avenue in Smithtown. “This Food Pantry serves local Smithtown residents, and many families signed up with hopes of receiving a basket for Thanksgiving this year,” stated Krilovitch. “They were very thankful for the donations made from the Pines fourth grade classes!”

The Pines ES community also demonstrated their unwavering support to giving to those who are less fortunate through their participation in the Pines “CAN” Help event. Pines students participate in an annual walking/jogging unit during their physical education classes that focuses on the importance of developing healthy lifetime physical activities. This year, students were asked to donate one can of healthy food for every lap that they completed on the track for the walking/jogging event. In total, Pines students and their families donated more than 950 items to the Long Island Cares Harry Chapin Food Bank from their walking/jogging and Pines Can Help events.
