SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Registration for the Eighth Annual Catholic Health Suffolk County Marathon is now open, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced Thursday. Bellone was joined by Col. John McMurray, chief operating officer and senior vice president of Good Samaritan Hospital; and Corey Roberts, founder of Race Awesome.

Next year's 5K is set for Oct. 22, while the Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K are scheduled for Oct. 23.

"The Suffolk County Marathon has become an annual tradition for runners and families not just here in Suffolk, but all across Long Island," Bellone stated via news release. "Not only does this race honor the selfless men and women who have served, but it also helps to fund critical services that our veterans need right here in Suffolk County."

The Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K race will once again start in the Village of Babylon. Athletes will get the chance to run through one of the most scenic courses on Long Island, running across the Robert Moses Causeway. In addition, the 5K will feature a brand-new course that showcases the beauty and views of Gardiner County Park in Bay Shore.

"As a member of our Armed Services for more than 26 years, I know the importance of the services provided to our veteran community and as a health care leader on Long Island, I want to ensure that the men and women who have protected our freedoms have access to the clinical and social care they need," McMurray stated. "We’re proud to once again support the Suffolk County Marathon which directly impacts our Long Island veterans."

The Suffolk County Marathon was first launched in 2015 with the main objective of providing additional support to the more than 90,000 veterans who live in Suffolk. Each year, the Marathon raises money to benefit veterans and to date, the Suffolk County Marathon has raised over $700,000 for local veterans’ services with more than 11,000 runners participating.
