Theatre Makes Learning Fun for Pines Elementary School Students

Pines Elementary School third grade students enjoyed a very special visit to the John J. Engeman Theatre in Northport for an entertaining performance of Schoolhouse Rock. The musical is based on the Emmy Award-winning 1970s cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math, science and politics through clever, tuneful songs. Making a comeback today, Schoolhouse Rock lights up stages everywhere while instructing a whole new generation to “Unpack Your Adjectives” and “Do the Circulations.”

“Pines third grade students have been watching Schoolhouse Rock videos throughout the year to support the Social Studies/Grammar/ELA curriculum,” said Teacher Rosellen Enrico. The Pines students greatly enjoyed their trip to the theatre, stating: “We watched the videos in class, so it was fun to see them come to life on stage.” Or as one particularly clever third grader noted: “Schoolhouse Rock ‘tricks’ kids into learning about history, the government, grammar and the Constitution”!
