UPDATE: 2 Hurt in 5-Vehicle Crash That Shut Portion of Westbound LIE
The crash caused massive traffic backups during the morning rush.

UPDATE 11 a.m.: The LIE has now re-opened between exits 59 and 58.
UPDATE 9:45 a.m.: Police say a van struck two vehicles simultaneously and two other cars were involved in the crash. One woman was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Another woman is being treated for a minor injury.

RONKONKOMA, NY – A serious crash has closed the westbound Long Island Expressway at Exit 59 Wednesday morning.
The crash occurred around 8:15 a.m. The LIE is currently closed between Exit 59–Ocean Avenue and Exit 58-Old Nichols Road, according to the New York State Department of Transportation. Traffic is backed up on the LIE for miles.

There are reports of multiple injuries in the crash, but Suffolk Police have not yet released any information.
