UNITED TOGETHER WITH HOPE IN THEIR HEARTS
HAUPPAUGE COMMUNITY'S RELAY FOR LIFE 2015 RAISED ALMOST $34,000 FOR AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
Hundreds of Hauppauge School District students, staff and community members united at the high school track earlier this month to celebrate cancer survivors, to remember those lost to cancer and to continue the fight by raising money and awareness. Hauppauge High School students organized the 12-hour event under the guidance of staff members. From the Survivors Lap, to organized games to the Luminaria Ceremony, the participants gathered under an atmosphere of hope to support those affected by cancer.
“As co-chair and a participant, I couldn’t be more proud of this year’s Relay for Life. In such a short amount of time we were able to raise almost $34,000 for such a great cause,” stated Hauppauge High School Student Katie Finn. “It couldn’t have happened without all of the principals, teachers, volunteers and participants’ help!”
Relay for Life is a community-driven event that celebrates cancer survivors, remembers those who have been lost and fights back against the disease by raising money and awareness to help eliminate cancer as a major health problem. In more than 5,200 communities and 20 countries, Relay for Life events comprise the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
