What's next (lohud.com) — West Haverstraw officials are weighing a massive 24/7 warehouse on a former landfill at Grassy Point Bend, and residents are loudly warning about traffic, safety, and environmental impacts on nearby neighborhoods and Haverstraw Bay. More than 200 people packed an Aug. 12 hearing, and the joint planning and zoning boards will continue the public hearing on Oct. 14 at Village Hall.

Authorities investigate alleged shipping scam after dozens of customer complaints in Rockland (news12.com) — Haverstraw police say they’ve charged the owner of Rockland Shipping after dozens of customers, including many from the Village of Haverstraw, reported paid shipments to the Dominican Republic that never arrived or arrived damaged. Investigators and Rockland Consumer Protection believe more victims are out there and are urging anyone with similar problems to come forward and document their losses.

3. Haverstraw man arrested with loaded gun (midhudsonnews.com) — A 20-year-old Haverstraw resident was arrested after nearly causing a late-night incident crossing Route 9W and then fleeing from officers, who say he resisted and injured one of them. Haverstraw Police later found a loaded firearm and related equipment, leading to multiple weapon and obstruction charges, with assistance from Rockland County investigators.

Historic Hudson River Towns Supports All Aboard Hudson Valley West Shore Passenger Rail Feasability Study (rocklanddaily.com) — Haverstraw is among the riverfront communities whose interests are represented in a new push to study restoring passenger rail service along the West Shore Line. A regional coalition, Historic Hudson River Towns, has urged Gov. Kathy Hochul to fund a modern feasibility study, arguing better west-of-Hudson rail could boost housing, jobs, and mobility for towns like Haverstraw.
