DOT Unveils Bike Lane Upgrades To Brooklyn Bridge
The upgrade will improve connections for cyclists traveling to and from the Brooklyn Bridge.

BROOKLYN, NY — NYC Department of Transportation has kicked off October’s “Biketober” by announcing upcoming road work to upgrade bike infrastructure on Boerum Place and Adams Street, improving connections for cyclists traveling to and from the Brooklyn Bridge.
The project will convert the existing standard bike lane on Adams Street and Boerum Place into a two-way protected bike path between Bergen Street and Johnson Street. Work will begin this year on the section between Atlantic Avenue and Tillary Street, with the Bergen Street-to-Atlantic Avenue segment planned for installation in 2027.
NYC DOT will also add a protected bike lane on Adams Street between Sands Street and York Street in DUMBO, a standard bike lane between York Street and Front Street, and upgrades to the existing bike lane on Sands Street between Jay Street and Adams Street.

The improvements will create a bike connection of just over one mile from Boerum Hill to DUMBO.
The agency said more than 1,300 cyclists use Adams Street during a typical weekday, while the Brooklyn Bridge and other East River bridges carry more than 30,000 cyclists daily. The work is part of ongoing efforts to improve connections to the Brooklyn Bridge, which received its first dedicated bike path in 2021.
