📰 News we're reading

• Town approves newest downtown Hicksville TOD project (libn.com) — A $61 million Cornerstone Hicksville apartment and retail complex next to the Hicksville LIRR station has been approved, marking the latest step in downtown’s revitalization. The four-story project will add 106 apartments, ground-floor shops, underground parking, and some affordable units, with construction expected to start early next year and tax breaks sought through the Nassau County IDA.

• Hicksville Middle School students take ‘A Walk in Their Shoes' (longislandpress.com) — Hicksville Middle School eighth graders recently wrapped up a powerful World War II project that asked them to step into the shoes of people who lived through the conflict. By writing journals and creating artifacts as German citizens, Japanese Americans, or U.S. soldiers, students deepened their empathy and historical understanding while showcasing creativity for classmates during a gallery walk.

• LIRR Riders Face Morning Commute Disruptions After Penn Station Track Fire (patch.com) — Hicksville train riders are facing major headaches as an electrical fire in Penn Station’s East River Tunnel has severely limited LIRR service, with no eastbound trains from Penn. One Hicksville commuter voiced frustration over sparse MTA communication, while officials urge riders to use Grand Central or Atlantic Terminal and rely on the TrainTime app for real-time updates as repairs continue.
