Armed Taxi Cab Robber Arrested, Cops Search for Accomplice: Police

A Westbury man who robbed a cab driver at gunpoint in New Cassel on Sunday morning was located and arrested while detectives continue to search for his accomplice, police say.
According to authorities, Wilfredo Torres-Ramos, 31, and another person not yet apprehended were in a taxi on Broadway and Malaney Avenue when they pulled a gun on the driver and demanded money at 4:05 a.m.
The taxi driver handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the robbers fled on foot down Malaney Avenue towards Union Avenue, police say. No injuries were reported in the robbery.

An investigation led to the arrest of Torres-Ramos at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at his home. He was charged with first-degree robbery and fourth-degree criminal possession of a dangerous weapon.
He will be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
