Bicyclist In Critical Condition Following Auto Accident

NEW CASSEL, NY--A male bicyclist, 59, is in critical condition following an accident with a taxi cab driver that occurred in New Cassel on Monday, May 13 around 6:30 p.m., police say.

The bicyclist was traveling east on Prospect Avenue and suddenly left the bicycle lane, cut in front of a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria Taxi Cab driven by a 48-year-old man also traveling east on Prospect Avenue, and was struck, police say.

The taxi driver remained at the scene and called 911, leading to an investigation by The Homicide Squad. Police transported the bicyclist to a nearby local hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing.
