Burning Wires Spread To Trees And Brush

The road was closed in both directions for about 25 minutes after the fire spread.

WOODBURY, NY — Wires burned in Woodbury on Thursday morning, per officials.

At 11:25 a.m., the Syosset Fire Department responded to Woodbury Road just north of Jericho Turnpike, where members found cable and phone lines on fire spreading to the trees and brush.

Crews from Engine 584 doused the fire and turned the scene over to the Verizon representatives. Woodbury Road was closed in both directions north of Jericho Turnpike for about 25 minutes as crews worked. The utility company was told to inspect their equipment due to the fire.
