Child Porn Owner Tried To Meet 14-Year-Old Girl At Nassau County Mall: Police

Police say the 31-year-old posed as a teenage boy on Instagram to befriend the girl.

A registered sex offender in Nassau County who was arrested Tuesday after he tried to meet up with a 14-year-old girl at a mall was later found to possess child pornography, police said.

According to authorities, David M. Murillo, 31, of Valley Stream, posed as a 17-year-old boy, befriended the girl on Instagram and made a plan to meet up with her at the Broadway Mall, located at 358 N. Broadway.

Authorities were made aware of the arrangement and arrested Murillo on Tuesday at 4:36 p.m. following an investigation. Detectives obtained a consent search of Murillo’s iPod, and police say they recovered several pictures and videos of child pornography.

According to a public Facebook post of a user who would like to be unnamed, the parents of the teenage girl took away her phone and discovered she was corresponding with a 17-year-old boy. They set up a meeting at Target and they discovered the "teen" was actually 31 years old, the post says.

Murillo was charged with five counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Murillo was arrested more than 10 years ago for using internet chat rooms to seek a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl who was actually an undercover detective, according to a Newsday report posted on the Parents For Megan's Law website. Before that, Murillo pleaded guilty to harassing a 6-year-old girl while he was a counselor at the Thomas School of Horsemanship in Melville, the report says.

Detectives requests any parents who believe their child may have had contact with Murillo to contact the Special Victims Squad – Child Exploitation Section at 516-573-4022. All callers will remain anonymous.
