Woman Killed As Fire Engulfs Home On Division Avenue: Police

The 73-year-old victim could not be removed from the house until the fire was extinguished, police said.

NEW CASSEL, NY — A elderly woman died on Wednesday morning in a New Cassel house fire, police said.

When officers arrived, just before 11 a.m., the home at 44 Division Ave. was fully engulfed in flames.

Conditions prevented a search for the victim until it was under control by the Westbury Fire Department.

The victim is identified by police as 73-year-old Jacqueline Geffrard.

One Westbury firefighter suffered a burn to his hand, police said.

The County Fire Marshal is investigating, but the fire is not considered suspicious at this time.
