Press Release From Hicksville High School: Congratulations to Omika Samlall, a student at Hicksville High School, who has been chosen to participate in the 20th annual Students Inside Albany government educational conference on May 17-20, sponsored by the League of Women Voters. Omika will represent the East Nassau chapter of the League of Women Voters.

Omika will participate in a hands-on learning experience about how state government works. She will meet and work with high school students from across the state to learn about New York State government and the process by which citizens can participate in the policy-making arena.

As part of this program, Omika and other students will tour the New York State Capitol and observe both the Senate and Assembly in action by spending an afternoon shadowing their respective legislator. The League of Women Voters East Nassau chapter is sponsoring Omika’s trip. League of Women Voters representatives Donna Buthmann, Mary Gould and Dania Smith selected Omika after interviewing her in January. The goal of the Students Inside Albany government educational conference is to inspire Omika and other students to become more aware of citizens’ responsibility in representative government.
