The man has pleaded not guilty to charges including grand larceny, criminal possession of a forged instrument and identity theft.
HICKSVILLE, NY — A Hicksville man has been indicted after authorities said he stole $40,000 from an elderly woman using a bogus check and a forged signature. Daniel Brown, 29, of Saint John’s Avenue, has been charged with grand larceny, petit larceny, criminal possession of a forged instrument, identity theft and criminal possession of stolen property, prosecutors said.
He pleaded not guilty and was released on his own recognizance, according to online court records. Brown is expected in court in December.
Brown stole money out of an 85-year-old Bronx woman's bank account by using her name, address, JP Morgan Chase account number, and forged signature, prosecutors said. He deposited the check into his personal TD Bank account.

"The defendant allegedly stole thousands of dollars from the victim by using a bogus check and possessing the victim’s forged signature," Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a news release. "The elderly victim had to go through a terrible ordeal after realizing she was missing $40,000 from her bank account.
