Three students earned hardware through the Long Island Voice of Democracy audio essay contest.

Alaha Nasari, a freshman in Heather Stavrinadis’ Pre-AP World History Class at Hicksville High School, earned first place at the Long Island Voice of Democracy audio essay contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Nasari, whose work based on the theme, “My Responsibility to America,” was submitted at the regional level following first-place recognition at the building level, has now had her essay submitted to the state competition.

In addition, Stavrinadis’ student Noel John and Kevin Bunting’s student Bismah Dhar earned second and third place, respectively, at the building level of the competition.
