Man Beat Officers With Dumbbell During Arrest: Police

Police managed to get the man under control, but three officers were injured, police say.

A Nassau man was arrested Monday evening after police say he attacked a fellow resident at a group home and then three police officers.

According to police, officers responded to a group home on West John Street in Hicksville just before 5 p.m. When they arrived, they were met by a 59-year-old man who told them that he had been assaulted by another resident of the home. The officers found the man, Anthony Robinson, 58, in his bedroom.

When he was confronted by the officers, police say Robinson raised a metal dumbbell above his head in a threatening manner. When the officers attempted to get control of Robinson, police say he started hitting them with the dumbbell, striking one officer in the head several times. After a struggle, police say they were able to place Robinson under arrest.
