Man Drove Drunk With 5-Year-Old in the Car on Long Island: Police

The man was arrested Thursday morning.

WESTBURY, NY - A Florida man faces felony DWI charges after police say he drove drunk with a 5-year-old child in the car Thursday morning in Westbury.

According to authorities, an officer pulled over a vehicle operated by Danny Costello, 28, after observing the man back out of Verdi’s of Westbury, located at 680 Old Country Road, without yielding to oncoming eastbound traffic and failed to maintain a lane as he drove east on Old Country Road at 1:52 a.m.

Officers discovered Costello was operating his vehicle under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, police say. Further investigation revealed Costello drove the vehicle with a 5-year-old girl seated behind the driver’s seat along with a 26-year-old woman passenger, police say. No injuries were reported.

Costello was charged with aggravated DWI (Leandra’s Law), DWI, driving while alcohol impaired, endangering the welfare of a child and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.

He was arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Just a few minutes prior to Costello’s arrest, a man attending a wedding at Verdi's of Westbury was arrested for beating up and robbing another man.
