Nassau Woman Dies In House Fire
Firefighters said an extremely cluttered house, described as "hoarding conditions," made it difficult to get in.
A Hicksville woman died on Thursday after firefighters had difficulty rescuing her from her cluttered home during a fire.
Firefighters received a call for a house fire on Ketcham Avenue in Hicksville just before 1 p.m. When they tried to enter, they were met with an extremely cluttered house, which made getting in difficult. The Bethpage Fire Department described it as "hoarding conditions."
The Bethpage Fire Department helped the Hicksville firefighters get to the second floor, where they pulled a woman out of the building. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead.

According to Newsday, fire officials said that smoking could have started the fire. The woman, who was not identified, was 49.
