Popular Nassau Bakery Burns In Late-Night Fire

Firefighters from nine different departments responded to get the blaze under control.

A popular Hicksville bakery burned to the ground late Sunday night, requiring dozens of firefighters from multiple departments to get it under control.

According to the Bethpage Fire Department, the call for the fire came in around 11:30 p.m. at Francesco's Italian-American Bakery, located at 640 South Broadway in Hicksville, at the intersection of Route 107 and South Broadway.

Nine other fire departments responded to the fire to help get it under control. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze to just the bakery, which was one of four or so businesses in a small strip at the location. There were 100 firefighters at the scene from the Bethpage, Hicksville, Farmingdale, Wantagh, Syosset, Jericho, Westbury, North Bellmore and Massapequa fire departments.

One firefighter was reportedly injured and transported to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment. Police say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Francesco's has been family -owned for 33 years. The owners vowed to rebuild the store. On Facebook, the owners of the bakery wrote that anyone who had orders in will still receive them, but from the North Massapequa location.
