15 Students Hospitalized After Medical Episode On Bus

The students were evaluated after some began to experience nausea and chest pains Friday morning.

SOUTH HUNTINGTON, NY - A total of 15 sixth-grade students from the Silas Wood Sixth Grade Center were hospitalized on Friday morning, according to the South Huntington school district.

Earlier today, several students on a small Huntington Coach Bus complained of nausea and chest pains.

The nurse evaluated the students and found no immediate danger, but out of an abundance of caution, the district decided to have all of the students evaluated by paramedics.

The paramedics then determined it was best the sixth-grade students be evaluated at the hospital.

As a result, 15 children were transported on several ambulances to the hospital for evaluation. In addition, Huntington Coach removed the bus from service for evaluation.

"The students’ parents have been informed and are an active part of the process," superintendent Dave Bennardo wrote in a statement. "We have no further information from that evaluation at this time but will, of course, be in touch should the situation need remediation. Again, our students are not in danger, but their safety is our absolute first concern."
