3 Saved From Sinkhole In Suffolk
The sinkhole was six feet wide by six feet deep, police say. A couple of bystanders helped police make the rescue.
HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — Three people were saved from a sinkhole in Huntington Station early Thursday, Suffolk police said.
A woman was stuck in a hole in the ground, prompting Suffolk officers to respond to West 10th Street just after 6 a.m.
Officers found three people — two men and a woman — stuck in a sinkhole measuring roughly 6 feet wide by 6 feet deep in the front yard of the property.

A bystander helped an officer reach into the hole and pull one person to safety. A second officer got a ladder from a neighbor and placed it into the hole for the other two people to climb out.
One of the men, in his 60s, and the woman, around 70, were brought to Huntington Hospital for evaluation. The second man, approximately 60 years old, was not injured, police said.

The Town of Huntington Building Inspector was called to evaluate the property and find out what caused the sinkhole.
