Man, 86, Dies In Dix Hills Crash: Police (patch.com) — An 86-year-old driver from the Dix Hills area died after his Subaru left Burrs Lane and struck a tree Saturday afternoon, according to Southampton Town police. An 84-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries, and Suffolk detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Second Squad as they investigate the crash that impacts the greater Huntington community.
2. Beloved Cinema Arts Centre director fired, sparking community backlash (news12.com) — Huntington's longtime Cinema Arts Centre is under fire after firing co-director Dylan Skolnick, sparking petitions, boycotts, and calls for transparency from residents and film community members. The board cites unspecified "serious misconduct" but has shared no details, leaving many locals questioning the decision and vowing to stay away until the dispute is resolved.
3. Woman struck, injured by her own car in Huntington Station (abc7ny.com) — A 60-year-old woman was seriously injured in Huntington Station when her 2025 Honda CRV rolled backward in her Townhome Way driveway and struck her, sending her to Huntington Hospital. Suffolk County police have impounded the vehicle and are asking anyone with information to contact the Second Squad as they investigate what happened.
4. Huntington's House of Yoshin closes (newsday.com) — House of Yoshin, the high-end Japanese restaurant that brought elaborate kaiseki dinners to Huntington, has closed after just over a year in business. The owners say the concept was too niche for local tastes and are still deciding what will replace it in the former KuraBarn space, while using lessons learned to shape their other Long Island restaurants.
5. Suffolk Dems call for investigation of tax-payer funded lawsuit (tbrnewsmedia.com) — Suffolk County Democrats, including Huntington Legislator Rebecca Sanin, are demanding a state investigation into about $3 million in public money spent on lawsuits challenging New York's even-year election law. They say Suffolk County and the Town of Huntington each paid roughly $246,000 toward what they describe as a partisan legal fight, and want Attorney General Letitia James to review how those funds were used.
