• Oheka Castle auction could be next month, owner and lawyer say (newsday.com) — Oheka Castle in Huntington may soon change hands, with a bankruptcy-related auction of the historic estate scheduled for Oct. 27 as owner Gary Melius seeks to resolve heavy debts. The sale, expected to market the property globally, could reshape one of Huntington's most recognizable wedding and event venues while aiming to fully repay secured creditors and possibly leave Melius with remaining funds.
• Police News Roundup: 3 CVS Shoplifters Wanted; Deli Manager Cited in Raid (huntingtonnow.com subscription) — Authorities recently cited the manager of Las Lajas Deli on Depot Road in Huntington Station after a multi-agency inspection uncovered numerous alleged violations, including fire code and health issues. The Town of Huntington Fire Marshal issued several violations and a criminal summons, and both the fire marshal and county health officials plan further investigations, while police also continue seeking suspects in large CVS cosmetics thefts countywide.
• High school roundup: Field hockey, boys and girls soccer, girls volleyball and girls golf (newsday.com) — Huntington athletes had a big day, with the field hockey team pulling off a dramatic 5-4 comeback win over Sachem East and the boys soccer squad edging Harborfields 3-2 to stay unbeaten. Local standouts like Caroline Mitek and Eduardo Reyes led the way as several other Suffolk teams also posted strong early-season results across soccer, volleyball, and golf.
