Annie And Augie: Huntington Adoptable Pets Of The Week
Annie and Augie, around 3 months old, rely on one another. Would you like to adopt them?

HUNTINGTON, NY — Annie and Augie, the first two kittens of the new year, were born in mid- January to a young indoor/outdoor mom in the Mastic/Shirley area, said Debbi Larkin, president of Grateful Paw Cat Shelter.
"Unfortunately, the family who was supposed to be taking care of them was moving and could not or would not take the kittens with them..they only wanted to take the mom so they reached out to us looking for help to re-home them both," Larkin said. "How could you give up these two cutie pies? Of course, we said yes and so the foster program begins again for the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter for 2024."
Annie is a multi colored torbie and a "real free spirit," according to Larkin. She loves to play and will instigate trouble if she thinks nobody is paying attention to her. The foster family has nicknamed her "Chi-chi," which means spicy.

"And that she is!" Larkin said. "When they were at the vet because of some bathroom issues they had to be separated so the vet could see what was happening. Unfortunately, Annie did not like that and she was yelling at the top of her lungs and hanging upside down in the cage letting everyone know her displeasure! The staff at the animal hospital felt so bad for her, or maybe they just didn’t want to listen to her yelling, that they took her out of the cage and carried her around all day. Now that Annie is back in foster care she has settled down."
She loves to sleep on the humans or snuggle with her brother. Although Annie is much smaller than Augie, she is always watching over him and bathing him.

"I guess she wants to make sure he is clean and presentable," Larkin said.
Augie is the grey tiger and he is on the quieter side, Larkin said.
"He is not the ring leader! He loves to sleep anywhere he can, and if he has a human lap that is even better. His sister is always snuggling up with him but sometimes he wants to be close to his humans."
He loves watching the birds outside when sitting in the cat tree. He has a cardboard house that he loves to hide in but he decided that the roof needed to be raised, so off it came and the window area was expanded for better viewing of people passing by, according to Larkin.
"He waits for Annie to bathe him after every meal and if it takes her an hour, then so be it. Augie will most likely be sleeping by the time Annie is done."
Both babies have tested negative for FELV and FIV, tested negative for parasites, had two of the three vaccines and are litter box trained. They will receive their last set of vaccines and will be spayed/neutered at the end of April, and then they will join the others in the kitten room at the shelter.
If you are interested in meeting Annie and Augie, you may call the shelter at 631-757-4517, email cats@laphuntington.org, visit the Facebook page or visit at the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter.
The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
The shelter is also open from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday nights only for those who cannot make it during the daytime hours.
They will both be available for introductions at the shelter's "Spring Fling" from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 13. After the event, they will be going back into their foster home until the end of the month.
"Annie and Augie are extremely bonded so we would love to see them go to their forever home
TOGETHER!" Larkin said. "They rely on one another and we would hate to see that bond broken..they have already had someone who didn’t want them. They will bring so much joy and laughter to your home with their antics, don’t they deserve a second chance? And for the record, kittens always do better in pairs, unless there is another younger cat in the house they can interact with."
