ASSEMBLYMAN CHAD LUPINACCI CALLS FOR TRANSPARENCY, ACCOUNTABILITY REFORMS
Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I-South Huntington) calling for openness, accountability and greater transparency in Albany.

Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I-South Huntington) along with colleagues of the Assembly Minority Conference held a press conference today calling for openness, accountability and greater transparency in the New York State Assembly.
“Lawmakers in Albany need to be held to a higher standard so we can regain the public’s trust. After Sheldon Silver resigned from his seat as Speaker, many democrats were very vocal about reform in the Assembly, but have since backpedaled on that promise,” said Lupinacci, a longtime advocate in favor of term limits for all elected officials. “It’s time to bring transparency and accountability back to Albany.”
Lupinacci said that the reform proposals would create more accountability for the actions of lawmakers and bring much needed fairness and transparency back to an institution that has consistently had a dark cloud over it for decades. The proposals include enacting eight year term limits for Legislative Leaders, including Assembly Speaker, and committee Chairpersons; allowing every member of the Assembly the opportunity to have at least one piece of substantive legislation brought through committee to the floor of the Assembly for a vote; and televising and recording committee meetings, among others.

“I urge the Assembly Majority to join us in passing these amendments to hold lawmakers accountable for their actions and bring greater transparency to Albany,” concluded Lupinacci.
